Tomorrow 25 September 2014 at the Momec Montecitorio Meeting Centre Via della Colonna Antonina 52 smell, will be held a debate on online reputation organized during the Social Media Week

The argument has enormous implications given the enormous and unstoppable importance of the network and search engines.

In the face of the great opportunities offered by the internet, dangers and abuses are mixed that could be fatal for companies and disruptive for citizens.

It is not psychological terrorism, but an observation that arises from the inadequacy of the protections that should be guaranteed by the states.

By its nature, the internet has been considered a global network where all physical references and the ability to identify a legal entity or natural person who may hide behind the anonymity of a fictional nick name are lost, or behind a tax and corporate planning designed to make the operator INVISIBLE to local tax laws and rules ( as it has happened and is continuing to be for the OTTs ).

Slowly and with a lot of cumbersome the European Community is taking steps to limit the damage of this "convenient" interpretation.

For example, the ruling of the Strasbourg Court for Human Rights established the direct responsibility of the website manager for what concerns the defamation resulting from anonymous posts written on the platform.( Source of the article Person and Damage http://www.personaedanno.it/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=43711&catid=173&Itemid=420&mese=10&anno=2013 ).

But all this would work if the site has a permanent establishment in the area that allows for the identification of a registered office ... there are still many clever ones on the planet who continue to operate ON and IN the European territory without complying with local laws: an example of all Tripadvisor!
